Although there are laws protecting victims from hate crimes, most of those laws do not apply to Arab Americans. The terrorism of Sept. 11, 2001 has lifted the Constitutional protections for Arab Americans making them guilty first in the eyes of an American justice system skewered by post-Sept. 11, 2001 animosity and anger. Arab Americans have been laid off from their jobs on the basis of discrimination and bigotry, with no recourse to respond. Arab Americans have been accused of engaging in terrorism, even though in almost every single case, the accused are merely political activists who may have exercised their right to free speech to the limits in criticizing Israel and seemingly supporting terrorism and violence against Israel by their silence. The mainstream media has failed to cover these stories with balance, focusing only on the most negative aspects of the stories and viewing the Arab Americans as being guilty until proven innocent. Law enforcement agencies throughout the United States are engaging in anti-Arab practices, holding them responsible in contentious confrontations and encounters, including from incidents as trivial as traffic altercations to violent confrontations between teenagers. It is always the Arab American who is responsible when the other party is non-Arab. Arab American students are being discriminated as their schools. Arab Americans are facing discrimination in immigration. And nothing is being done about it. ### |
