Two southwest suburban men are now facing hate crime charges after allegedly shouting anti-gay slurs at a woman, then punching and kicking her in a Hickory Hills restaurant. Mohammad Shaban, 35, of Hickory Hills, and Akram Alshoweat, 22, of Oak Lawn, are charged with felony hate crime and robbery, according to a release from the Cook County State's Attorney's office. If convicted, they face up to seven years in prison. Shaban turned himself into police Tuesday morning and his bond was set at $150,000, the release said. Alshoweat was arrested and appeared July 29 in court, where his bond was set at $200,000. Both are accused of shouting in Arabic at a 34-year-old woman who walked into a Hickory Hills restaurant on June 28, the release said. When translated, it was determined the two made numerous disparaging remarks and anti-gay slurs. As she left the restaurant, Shaban and Alshoweat allegedly attacked the woman, punching and kicking her, the release said. They then took her cell phone, keys and wallet
